Red Cross honours Safe + Sound with National Award

We are proud to announce that the Canadian Red Cross has recently presented us with the Partners in Humanity Citation. Safe + Sound has the honour of being the first recipient of this national award in Canada.

The award was given “In recognition of their commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable people within their community by assisting the Canadian Red Cross to effectively mobilize the power of humanity.”

Safe + Sound provides first aid and CPR training in the community as well as mentoring new instructors, some of whom are graduates of the Red Cross SmartStart program. SmartStart teaches new immigrants how to use the 9-1-1 service and gives training in accident prevention and basic first aid.

A Red Cross award ceremony was conducted on December 7 2011 at Eagle Ridge Bible Fellowship, Coquitlam. Kenny Leung, SmartStart program coordinator and Doug House, Red Cross Workplace Emergency First Aid representative presented the award to Safe + Sound directors Gill and Warren McCulloch in front of a class of students.

Safe + Sound are honoured to receive the Partners in Humanity award and would like to extend particular thanks to instructors Reza Shariatzade, Doug House and Bill Wiedman for their willingness to mentor new Red Cross instructors and guide them through the co-teach process.
