Canadian Red Cross courses on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) meet legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards. They include the latest CPR guidelines and training in using an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Frequently asked questions about CPR Courses
For general questions about certifications, payments, etc. See our comprehensive FAQ page.
Most BC child care workers take the Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR course, which includes CPR level B. If you work with older children aged 8 years and over, we recommend you take Intermediate First Aid. Intermediate First Aid includes skills for all age groups. If you are not sure which course you should take, please contact us to discuss your situation, and we will be happy to advise you
If you need CPR level B, you are likely a child care worker or ECE student. Child care workers in BC need to take at least 8 hours of first aid training every 3 years. BC Child Care Licensing will not accept certifications from shorter classes (less than 8 hours).
You can choose between the following courses, both of which are recognized by Child Care Licensing in BC.
Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR (Level B)
Note: CPR level C includes all of the skills in CPR level B. Additionally, you will learn CPR skills for older children (8 years +) and adults.
We don't offer BLS classes for the public. You can find a class via the Canadian Red Cross course locator.
I now feel confident in my abilities to perform CPR!
The best first aid course I have taken
I have just taken a Red Cross Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR class with Safe + Sound and it was the best first aid course I have taken to date! The instructor was very passionate about teaching first aid – the passionate ones make the best teachers. The instruction was clear, easy to follow and we were encouraged to ask questions if we didn’t understand. I now feel confident I’m my abilities to perform CPR and I highly recommend Safe + Sound First Aid Training.
