First Aid for Opioid Poisoning Emergencies
Are you prepared to deal with an opioid poisoning emergency?
Learn how to respond to an opioid poisoning emergency, including how to administer nasal naloxone. "First Aid for Opioid Poisoning Emergencies" is a FREE course provided by the Canadian Red Cross.
In the "First Aid for Opioid Poisoning Emergencies" course, you will become knowledgeable and confident in how to respond to an opioid poisoning emergency, including how to administer nasal naloxone. You will learn more about opioids and naloxone and how they affect the body and will explore ways to reduce the influence of stigma.
- FREE for all Canadian residents 16 years and older.
- Online, self-directed course (45-60 minutes)
- Become knowledgeable and confident in how to respond to an opioid poisoning emergency.
- Learn about opioids and how they affect the body.,how naloxone works and how to administer naloxone.
- Explore risk factors of opioid poisoning, ways to reduce the influence of stigma, and gain strategies for self-care.
- Receive a free nasal naloxone kit upon completion of the course (available to residents in all provinces/territories except Quebec. While supplies last.
Online learning format: self-directed
Learn at your own pace by working through the training materials independently online. The course will take approximately 45- 60 minutes to complete, depending on the individual.
This course is designed for:
- Anyone 16 years of age and older who wants to learn first aid skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize and respond to an opioid poisoning emergency.
- This course has no prerequisites.

The "First Aid for Opioid Poisoning Emergencies" course is FREE for all Canadian residents 16 years and older.
Online Course Duration
Approximately 60 minutes
Course completion and pass mark
This course is for knowledge only, there there is no pass or fail. You just need to complete the course to receive a certificate of completion and your Naloxone kit.
Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing.
