Standard First Aid & CPR C Renewal and Recertification
About this course
We offer the full Standard First Aid blended course at a discounted rate to those with a current, unexpired Standard First Aid, Intermediate or Level 2 certificate. The certification is valid for three years.
We no longer offer Standard First Aid recertification courses, as this shortened class provides little or no time for re-teaching. The instructor will test your skills during a recertification class, so you must be confident in your ability to demonstrate them before attending the class. After 25 years of running Red Cross first aid classes, we've found that after 2-3 years without practice, most people have forgotten their first aid skills and require retraining.
For this reason, we offer the full course only, but at a lower rate for people with a current Standard First Aid certificate that is still valid on the day of the in-person classroom session.
Fee
$120.00+GST per person. Includes CPR pocket mask and Red Cross First Aid eBook (download). The regular price for the full Standard First Aid course is $170.00+GST. If you have never taken a Standard First Aid course or if your current Standard First Aid has expired, you must register for the full Standard First Aid course.
Location
Our public classes are held at 1160 Lansdowne Drive, Coquitlam, BC V3B 5V8. We do not have an office at this location.
Parking: A large, free car park is available at the venue.
Areas served: Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore, Belcarra, Vancouver, North Vancouver, New Westminster, Burnaby, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge and Langley.
Prerequisite
- To qualify for Standard First Aid recertification, you must possess a Standard First Aid (SFA) certificate that is still valid on the day of your in-person class. We will ask you to email a copy of your current SFA certificate when you have completed your registration.
- You will need internet access to complete the online theory component.
- Participants must complete the online course before attending the in-person classroom session for which they've registered. Participants who have not completed the online class before their scheduled classroom session will not be admitted to the class and will be considered a 'no show'. 'No-shows' are not eligible for refunds or transfers.
WorkSafe BC Equivalency
WorkSafe BC accepts Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid Recertification as equivalent to Intermediate First Aid.
WorkSafe BC - Certificates Accepted in BC.
Duration
Standard First Aid & CPR C includes 16 hours total training - Up to 8 hours of online learning followed by an 8-hour in-person classroom session. If you are recertifying your Standard First Aid certification the online theory portion will take less time as the material will be familiar to you. Whether you are taking Standard First Aid for the first time, or recertifying, you will be required to attend a full-day, in-person classroom session where you will learn and practice first aid and CPR skills.
How blended classes work
Blended classes include two components:
1. Online theory course.
2. In-person, practical skills class.
You must complete the online self-study training before attending the classroom session.
Within 48 hours of registration, the Canadian Red Cross will email instructions and a link to your online theory course. Please check your spam/junk folders in your email.
You do not have to complete the online training in one session; you can stop anytime and continue where you left off.
You must complete the skills session within 6 weeks of completing the online portion. If you do not complete the classroom component within 6 weeks of completing the online portion,, you will have to re-register and take the course again.
If you are registering more than six weeks before your in-person classroom session, we suggest you begin your online training a couple of weeks before the in-person class so the course material is fresh in your mind.
Participants who have not completed the online course before their scheduled classroom session will not be admitted to the class and will be considered a no-show. No-shows are not eligible for refunds or transfers.
CPR level
Standard First Aid Recertification includes CPR Level C and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training. CPR Level C includes adult, child and infant skills.
