Intermediate First Aid

Intermediate First Aid is a comprehensive course that offers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for individuals who need training due to work requirements or need more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. The course meets the legislation requirements of provincial and territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

WorkSafeBC recognizes Intermediate First Aid, formerly known as Occupational First Aid Level (OFA 2), as equivalent to the Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR C.

The course meets CSA Standard Z1210–17 - Intermediate. Although the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) uses the term Intermediate to describe Standard First Aid training, the Canadian Red Cross will continue to use Standard First Aid. The course is fully aligned with CSA standards despite the difference in naming conventions.

WorkSafe BC accepts Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid Recertification as equivalent to Intermediate First Aid.

WorkSafe BC - Certificates Accepted in BC.

Duration

Total training: 16 hours includes:

Online theory (self-study) - up to 8 hours. Many of our course participants have told us they have completed this component in 5-6 hours or less.

Classroom skills session (in-person) - 8 hours

How blended classes work

Intermediate First Aid is offered in a blended training format. Blended classes include two components:
1. Online theory course.
2. In-person, practical skills class.
You must complete the online self-study training before attending the classroom session.

Within 48 hours of registration, the Canadian Red Cross will email you instructions and a link to your online theory course. Please check your spam/junk folders in your email.

You do not have to complete the online training in one session; you can stop at any time and continue where you left off.

You must complete the skills session within 6 weeks of completing the online portion. If you do not complete the classroom component within 6 weeks of completing the online portion, you will have to re-register and take the course again.

If you are registering more than six weeks before your in-person classroom session, we suggest starting your online training a couple of weeks prior to the in-person class so the course material remains fresh in your mind.

Participants who have not completed the online course before their scheduled classroom session will not be admitted to the class and will be considered a no-show. No-shows are not eligible for refunds or transfers.

CPR Level

Intermdiate First Aid includes CPR Level C and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training.

CPR Level C includes adult, child and infant skills.
