Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Course Details

Intro to Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Training

Canadian Red Cross Babysitting training offers basic first aid and caregiving skills for youth 11-15 years old. In this certification course, participants learn how to care for children in a variety of age groups and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course also teaches youth the skills to promote themselves safely as babysitters to prospective families.

Course fee

$70.00+GST per person.

  • Full-Day Training: A comprehensive 7-hour, live instructor-led virtual Red Cross Babysitting class.
  • Shipped Manual: The official Red Cross Babysitting course manual, mailed straight to your home shortly after registration.
  • Digital Certification: An official digital Red Cross Babysitting certificate, emailed by the Canadian Red Cross upon course completion.

Course Duration and Timing

The Red Cross virtual Babysitting class is 7 hours long, including several short breaks. All classes are in Pacific Standard Time (PST) and take place on the days and times noted in the schedule table above.

Attendance

Students must check in to their class on time. Classes will start at the time advertised (Pacific Standard Time). There will be no make-up sessions for missed classes.

Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Training for Private Groups

Instructor

To teach a Canadian Red Cross Babysitting class, the instructor must be a certified Canadian Red Cross Youth Leader. At Safe + Sound, all of our Babysitting course instructors are fully certified and experienced in teaching this class.

Prerequisite

Participants must be at least 11 years old or have completed Grade 5. The recommended age range for Red Cross Babysitting training is 11-15 years.

Supervision

The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course is delivered in an instructor-led virtual classroom (using Zoom). For virtual classes, the following is required:

  • An adult must be on-site with the learner. They do not need to be present on-screen but must be available in the space to help if needed.
  • Learners must have their video and audio on for the duration of the session so the instructor can see if they leave the room or are distracted.

Computer Access - What Your Child Needs for Class

Device & Connection: A computer or tablet with reliable internet, a webcam, speakers, and a microphone.
Platform: We host our virtual classes via Zoom. You do not need a paid Zoom account to join.
We will email you the direct classroom link a few days before your session starts.

Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Training - Course Content

  • Being responsible and demonstrating leadership.
  • Making good decisions and managing difficult behaviours.
  • Child developmental stages and specific strategies for each stage.
  • Feeding, diapering, dressing and playing with children and babies.
  • Recognizing and preventing unsafe situations.
  • Making safe choices and promoting safe behaviours
  • First aid skills and coping with emergencies.
  • The business of babysitting. How to get babysitting work safely.

Participant Materials & Supplies

  • Red Cross Babysitter’s Manual: We’ll mail a physical copy straight to your home upon registration. If you register close to the class date, an ebook version is also available.

  • Classroom Props: Your child will need a few common household items (like a doll or stuffed animal) for interactive activities. No special purchases are required! We’ll email you the full checklist in advance.

  • Course Certificate: The Canadian Red Cross will email your child’s official completion certificate during the week following the class.
