Basic First Aid

WorkSafeBC recognizes the Canadian Red Cross Emergency First Aid & CPR C as equivalent to Basic First Aid, formerly known as Occupational First Aid Level 1 (OFA Level 1). Students learn lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills suitable for both work and home settings. The course meets the legislation requirements of provincial and territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

Basic First Aid meets CSA Standard Z1210–17 – Basic. Although the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) uses the term Basic to describe Emergency First Aid training, the Canadian Red Cross will continue to use Emergency First Aid. The course is fully aligned with CSA standards despite the difference in naming conventions.

Blended Training

How blended classes work

Blended classes include two components:
1. Online theory course.
2. In-person, practical skills class.
You must complete the online self-study training before attending the classroom session.

Within 48 hours of registration, the Canadian Red Cross will email you instructions and a link to your online theory course. Please check your spam/junk folders in your email.

You do not have to complete the online training in one session; you can stop anytime and continue where you left off.

You must complete the skills session within 6 weeks of completing the online portion. If you do not complete the classroom component within 6 weeks of completing the online portion, you will have to re-register and take the course again.

If you are registering more than six weeks before your in-person classroom session, we suggest you begin your online training a couple of weeks before the in-person class so the course material is fresh in your mind.

Participants who have not completed the online course before their scheduled classroom session will not be admitted to the class and will be considered a no-show. No-shows are not eligible for refunds or transfers.
